We won't name a single 'best' ashram; it depends on what you're looking for. Here are the facts for two well-known Rishikesh ashrams. Parmarth Niketan: you request a room with the online reservation form. If you haven't had a reply within 3 days, email [email protected]. Reception is open 8 am–8 pm and check-out is before 11 am. Guests are expected to attend the sunset Ganga Aarti and wear modest clothing, and white is expected for yoga classes. Smoking, alcohol, drugs and non-vegetarian food are prohibited, and the ashram is quiet from 10 pm to 6 am. Divine Life Society (Sivananda Ashram): the Society says visitors from India and abroad can stay and eat at its Rishikesh headquarters free of charge. The Society also asks visitors to write for and receive written permission before coming, because space is limited. Its reception department handles guest accommodation. Read each ashram's rules before you request a stay.
