How Much Does It Cost to Stay at an Ashram in India? (Official Rates, Checked 2026-10-23)

Free, donation or fixed rate: what 36 ashrams in India charge for a stay, from official pages only, what's included, the extra costs, and how to pay safely.

Updated 2026-10-23

In short: Ashram stays in India range from free to several thousand rupees a day. Sri Ramanasramam, Shantikunj, Sivananda Ashram Rishikesh, RSSB Beas (during satsang periods) and Dhamma Giri charge nothing. Sivananda yoga-vacation ashrams publish ₹500–₹3,500 per night with meals and classes. Patanjali Yog Gram publishes ₹5,500–₹11,000 a day with therapy. Many publish no rates, so ask the ashram directly.

Every figure below is as published on the ashram's own page, last checked 2026-10-23.

The short answer: four ways ashrams charge

Prices below are not comparable one-to-one. A free shared room, a yoga-vacation bed with two classes, and a therapy package are different things, so each row says what the price covers.

Questions people ask

How much does an ashram stay cost per day in India?

Several ashrams charge nothing. The three Sivananda yoga-vacation ashrams publish ₹500–₹3,500 a night with meals and classes. Shirdi Sansthan rooms run ₹200–₹900 a day (a dharmashala hall is ₹20). Patanjali Yog Gram publishes ₹5,500–₹11,000 a day, therapy included. Many ashrams publish no rate at all.

How much does it cost to stay at Isha Yoga Center?

Isha shows cottage prices only on its live booking portal (cottage.isha.in for Indian visitors, visit.isha.in for overseas visitors), for your dates. We don't print a figure. Volunteering is free, with a free dorm for eligible volunteers who have completed Inner Engineering.

What does an ashram in Rishikesh cost per day?

DLS Sivananda Ashram is free for permitted visitors who apply in writing. Parmarth Niketan shows its rates on its own booking portal. Phool Chatti sells 7-day retreats from ₹32,000 for a single non-AC room. Most other ashrams in the area don't publish rates.

Can I stay in an ashram for free?

Yes, at Sri Ramanasramam, Shantikunj, DLS Rishikesh, RSSB Beas (during satsang periods) and Dhamma Giri (during a Vipassana course). Each has conditions: written applications, shared rooms, limited places or set dates. See our free ashram stays guide for the details.

Is Shantikunj free to stay?

Yes. Shantikunj gives shared group accommodation free of cost, on arrival and subject to space. It takes no reservations, so any website charging you for a Shantikunj room is not official. Expect a shared space and to join the daily routine.

How much does OSHO ashram Pune cost?

From 1 November to 15 December 2026, the OSHO Guesthouse charges ₹4,250 single or ₹4,750 double per night, plus 5% GST. The daily meditation pass is extra: ₹1,100 a day for resident Indians and ₹2,100 for international visitors. Check osho.com before booking.

Do donation-based ashrams expect a fixed amount?

Some state one. Sri Ram Ashram requests $25 per adult per night, and Tushita asks for a guideline minimum of ₹8,600 for a 10-day course. The Anandamayi International Center asks for an expected daily contribution but doesn't publish the amount.

How much does it cost to stay at Amritapuri or the Art of Living ashram?

Neither publishes a price on the official pages we checked. Contact the ashram through its official website. At Amritapuri, meals come with accommodation. Be wary of third-party sites quoting a rate, since we found no official figure to check it against.

Why don't some ashrams list prices?

Many give rooms by application, by request form or on arrival, not as a hotel would. Ask through the official site or office, pay only there, and keep a receipt. A missing price is not a sign that the stay is free.

Prices are as published on each ashram's official page and change without notice. Confirm with the ashram before you travel. Last checked 2026-10-23.
