Best time to visit
Plan around the festival calendar: Mahashivratri (next: 6 March 2027, 6 PM–6 AM IST) is the biggest night of the year, with lakhs of attendees, a nightlong programme and free Maha Annadanam; accommodation is not included and seats need registration. Visitors on Reddit advise avoiding big event days unless booked, as crowds become extreme. Monthly Amavasya (new moon) and Purnima (full moon) days have special offerings and midnight meditations. Climate guidance: not published on official pages.

What visitors say
Day visitors commonly recommend arriving early, following the temples in a set order, and note that phones and footwear must be deposited before entry. Many describe the spaces (especially Dhyanalinga) as calm and powerful; a recurring practical theme is that big events such as Mahashivratri and International Yoga Day bring very heavy crowds.
